Young sailor is third-time champion
Published:  06 October, 2007

Young Arran sailor Simon Sloan has become the Island’s junior sailing champion for a third consecutive year.

Over the last three weeks members of Arran Junior Sailing Club have been sailing three races each Tuesday night as part of the Arran Yacht Club Junior Championship.

The races organised by Gus MacLeod, were keenly fought in good winds and up to five cadets raced each week.

In the first two weeks the balance swung between, champion for the last two years, Simon Sloan and, last years runner up, Hazel Ramage.

Missing week one Barney Crockett joined the racing in week two and began to make his challenge. On the last night it was all to play for. Hazel and Simon had three wins each but Simon was behind with one less second place. Barney, however, did not see this as a problem and promptly won two races and had a second place in the last race. Simon had a first place and two seconds.

Unfortunately Hazel sailed herself out of contention with three third places.

With the best six races to count the final positions were: Junior Champion-Simon Sloan, runner up-Hazel Ramage, third Barney Crockett.

Well done to all the competitors for a display of friendly rivalry and sportsmanship and to Simon for his hat trick.
