First outdoor festival is a great success
Published:  06 October, 2007

Last weekend saw the first Arran Outdoor and Walking Festival take place around the island with a packed programme of events.

Locals and visitors joined experts on mountain walks and activities that took place on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

This was the first outdoor festival and it boasted an exciting schedule of events including a successful evening presentation from outdoor enthusiast Cameron McNeish.

One of the organisers, Gerard Tattersfield, said: ‘The festival was very successful. There was a great mix of locals and visitors which was great to see.’

The aim of the festival was to try and get just as many locals involved as those visiting from the mainland.

Mr Tattersfield explained: ‘All of the walks had a good number of people joining them at the weekend. it was a bit quieter on Friday and Monday but that is understandable.’ More than 60 people came to hear Cameron McNeish which was great and it was definitely one of the festival’s highlights.’

Plans are already underway to hold the Outdoor Festival at the same time next year and organisers are hoping it could be longer next time.

‘We will definitely try and improve by perhaps making it longer and offering more activities,’ said Mr Tattersfield.
