The Riding for the Disabled Association Arran Group is now galloping towards its aim of helping adults as well as youngsters – thanks to the generosity of the island’s shoppers.
The group raised an incredible £985 at a bag-packing day at the Brodick Co-op on Saturday.
‘It is a fantastic sum of money, and we are absolutely delighted,’ said group volunteer Janis Heaney. ‘At the moment the association has three ponies based at Oakbank Farm, Lamlash, that we can use for youngsters, but we would like to buy a pony that will allow us to help disabled adults on Arran.
‘We raised almost £1,000 and that money will go a long way to achieving that aim. We are extremely grateful to the Co-op and for all the shoppers who made donations.’
Also helping with the fundraising on Saturday was Dylan the Shetland pony who just loved people fussing over him.
The RDA’s next fundraising event will be on the CalMac ferry on Saturday, November 17.
