The second game of the season for Arran Ladies hockey club started with plenty of opportunities in the scoring circle for Arran but, actually putting a goal in evaded them for the first 20 minutes, until finally Abbie McKelvie managed to finish an attack with a great goal.

Islanders training for the Lamlash Splash on Saturday September 21 have stepped up a gear after large numbers of jellyfish hindered their swims during the summer.
The open water swim between Holy Isle and Lamlash will see 40 swimmers take to the water.

The sun shone on Butterhill in Kilmory for the annual Hillbilly Golf Tournament on Saturday 7 September, 2013 despite the rest of the island being washed out by torrential rain.

The end of season prizes were presented for the football league on Saturday and the main prize, the players’ player of the year, awarded to Southend centre back Danny Head who just pipped his fellow centre back Kyle Barbour of Brodick to the award.

The annual Arran Greenkeepers Cup was played for at Lamlash Golf Club on Friday 30 August, 2013 between the island’s greenkeepers and apprentices.

On a wet and windy Scottish Saturday six brave Arran youngsters joined 10,000 Mudders as they descended upon the usually peaceful Dalkeith Country Estate to take on the third UK Tough Mudder of 2013 – the military style obstacle course dubbed ‘probably the toughest event on the planet’.

The friends and colleagues of Harold ‘Spud’ Taylor gathered at Corrie Golf Club to celebrate him reaching the grand old age of 90 last Saturday (August 24, 2013).
In today’s world some may say this is a relatively commonplace achievement, but what is rare is not many 90-year-olds regularly put in a card for a competitive handicap – especially on such a physically demanding course as Corrie.

The man described as ‘the best golfer on the island’, Ewan McKinnon, has won the Arran Golfers Association Champion of Champions for the sixth time.
The final saw Arran’s best two golfers Dougie Macfarlane and Ewan take on each other in a final for the fifth time and there were around 30 people present to witness golf of a very high standard.

Two young karate kids from Arran have gained their junior black belts after nine years of training.
Trefor Goronwy, aged 13, and Shaun Smith, who is 14, were given their black belts – the highest achievement for a junior karateka – just before the schools broke up for the summer holiday.
