Arran Yacht Club’s (AYC) second sailing cup of the year took place on Saturday,June 9 2012,featuring the traditional circuit of Holy Isle, and a fleet of five boats.
Initial concerns that there might be too little wind proved unfounded.
Rory and Neil Hunter in their fast RS800 got the best start, and were well ahead of the ‘traditional’ dinghies throughout, completing the course in just 55 minutes.
Uncharacteristically,Angus Campbell, winner of the contest more than a dozen times over the years, started poorly and took most of the broad reach leg from Lamlash to King’s Cross to catch up.
Round the south channel mark,Malcolm Kerr made best use of unpredictable fluky wind at the south end of Holy Isle to make a break, and left the remaining three boats ‘becalmed’ for a short period.
