A train passing over the Ardrossan Harbour level crossing
From the end of April,a new half barrier system will be introduced to Ardrossan harbour train crossing.
At the moment, this is one of only a few in Scotland with no barriers.
Drivers heading for Arran or travelling from the ferry will be greeted by an experimental new barrier system within a couple of hundred yards of the Ardrossan harbour ferry terminal. This is a test site, and if successful, the company plans to roll out the system to a further 21 crossings, all in the Highlands.
