From the end of April, a new half barrier system will be introduced to Ardrossan harbour train crossing.
At the moment, this is one of only a few in Scotland with no barriers.
Drivers heading for Arran or travelling from the ferry will be greeted by an experimental new barrier system within a couple of hundred yards of the Ardrossan harbour ferry terminal. This is a test site, and if successful, the company plans to roll out the system to a further 21 crossings, all in the Highlands.
